US AGAINST ATHERO® is dedicated to spreading the awareness of atherosclerosis.

Fighting atherosclerosis is our mission.

Our Mission

US AGAINST ATHERO® is a campaign sponsored by AstraZeneca to increase our nation’s awareness of atherosclerosis (or athero, as we call it), with hopes that all Americans will take steps to take care of their arteries. Through education and valuable information about atherosclerosis, we support people in becoming advocates for their own health and for the health of others.

Why We Care

In a world where so many just causes are being championed, why are we asking you to care about athero?

Consider the facts.

  • In 2005, 445,687 people died from coronary heart disease (CHD) and 143,579 died from stroke in the United states —which is more deaths than from all cancers combined
  • CHD and stroke are consequences of atherosclerosis
  • Other consequences of athero include peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and even erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • High cholesterol is a major risk factor that fuels the progression of atherosclerosis
  • In 2005, almost 80 million Americans who had their cholesterol tested were told they had levels that were either above normal or high

We care because atherosclerosis affects so many of us and so many do not know.

We care because, for many people, atherosclerosis is a result of their diets high in saturated fats, cigarette smoking, and obesity.

We care because, for most people, atherosclerosis can be treated.

Arm Yourself with Knowledge

If we can become informed and help spread the word about athero, together we can make a difference.

Take the next step and join us in the fight against atherosclerosis. After all, without you, there’s no us.
